Erricos Ventouras
Professor
Erricos Ventouras was born in 1966. He got his Diploma in Engineering from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens in 1989 and the title of Doctor in Engineering from the same Department in 1994, on Biomedical Engineering. From 1991 till 1998 he worked as an electrical engineer, participating in R&D projects. From 1994 till 1998 he also worked in M&S Hourdakis SA, in Attiko Metro SA and as Researcher Lecturer in the University Research Institute of Computer and Communications of the National Technical University of Athens. From March 1998 his permanent position is with the Department of Biomedical Engineering, where he is currently Professor. He has taught at Graduate Courses at the University of Patras, the University of Athens and the University of West Attica.
His research interests include biomedical signal acquisition and processing, computer-based diagnosis systems, machine learning, electro- and magneto-encephalography, electrocardiography, neurological and behavioral monitoring, brain source imaging and computer-based examination systems. He cooperates with the Medical Signal and Image Processing Laboratory of his Department, as well as several research laboratories of the National Technical University of Athens and the Psychiatry Clinic of the Eginition Hospital of the University of Athens. He has 32 papers in international peer-reviewed scientific journals and over 120 scientific publications in book chapters, proceedings of international or national peer-reviewed congresses and national scientific magazines. He has more than 450 citations from other authors (self-citations of other authors excluded) to his scientific publications. He is reviewer in leading scientific journals in the field of Biomedical Engineering, such as IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering, IEEE Transactions on Information Technology in Biomedicine, Computer Methods and Programs in Biomedicine, Artificial Intelligence in Medicine and others. He was co-chair of the World Scientific and Engineering Academy and Society International Conference on Engineering Education, in 2005, and was a member of the Program Committee of the 8th IEEE International Conference on BioInformatics and BioEngineering in 2008. He was Scientific Leader either individually or of partners of 5 completed European Union-funded research projects and additionally participated in 15 European Union or Greek Government-funded projects. He has reviewed many European Union-funded research projects as well as 2 Chilean Research Fund Council project in his field of specialty.
